Fluticasone 100mcg Diskus (60 Inh) - Effective Asthma Prevention or Overhyped?
I've been prescribed Fluticasone 100mcg Diskus for my asthma, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with it. Is it as effective as everyone says for preventing asthma attacks? I've heard it doesn't work as a rescue inhaler, so what should I use alongside it? Also, I'm a bit worried about potential nse effects. I've heard about things like thrush, or changes in vision from steroid inhalers, so I want to be prepared. Has anyone had any of these issues? Last question - does anyone know if there are differences between generic and brand name versions of this medication?.

Be careful with steroid inhalers. I had a bad case of thrush from one and it was awful. Maybe, I didn't rinse my mouth and wash my inhaler as well. Make sure you wash your inhaler with warm water and mild detergent once a week, and rinse thoroughly before using it again. Then, rinse your mouth and spit it out after each use.
I've had no issues with Fluticasone, but I did have a friend who had severe side effects like dizziness and vision changes. She had to stop using it. It's rare, but it can happen. Allergic reactions are scary, too, so keep an eye out for things like rash, hives, or trouble breathing after you use it.
I hated the taste of Fluticasone. I switched to a different inhaler and it's been fine. YMMV
I've had some issues with bone or joint pain, but my doctor said it could just be a coincidence, because the pain usually persists even before I was prescribed the inhaler. Steroids can cause bone thinning, so it's something to be aware of. Don't forget to talk to your doctor about it, if it's something you're also experiencing. You might need to take extra calcium and vitamin D to mitigate the thinning effect from the steroids
Nice thread! How long does it typically take to see the benefits of Fluticasone?
I switched to Fluticasone from another inhaler and it's made a huge difference. I used to have frequent flare-ups, but not since I've been on this. Remember, it's important to use it regularly, even if you feel fine. It's a preventer, not a reliever.
I've been using Fluticasone for years and it's been a lifesaver. I use it twice a day as prescribed and it keeps my asthma under control. I also keep an Albuterol inhaler on hand for sudden attacks. As for side effects, I've had some mild throat irritation, which I rinse away with water after each use. I didn't have any thrush, but I wash my inhaler regularly, and always rinse my mouth after using. I can't say about the brand name vs. generic, but I noticed that my co-pay was lower on the generic. I ask my pharmacist about that.
I've been on Fluticasone for a while and I've had no issues at all. Sure, it's not the most fun thing to use every day, but it's definitely worth it.
Fluticasone is a great drug and it has helped so many people. I think the key is to be consistent and use it regularly. If you are experiencing side effects, please talk to your doctor immediately. You might need a lower dose or a different medication, but don't just stop using it. Make sure you're using the inhaler correctly, too. It's easy to make mistakes, so ask your doctor to show you how to use it properly. I rinse my mouth and clean my inhaler too.
I've heard some people say that nasal steroids can mess with your voice. Have any of you had this problem?
