I was prescribed Fragmin 2500iu/ml Inj, 4ml (Dalteparin) after a recent surgery to prevent blood clots. I've been on it for a couple of weeks now, and while I'm grateful for the protection it offers, I've had some questions and concerns about the side effects. The injection itself isn't too bad once you get used to it, but the potential side effects are a bit worrisome. I'm particularly concerned about the serious side effects like severe dizziness, confusion, and muscle weakness. Has anyone else experienced these? How did you cope? Also, I've had some minor irritation at the injection site. Is this common? Any tips on how to minimize it? I want to make sure I'm taking this medication safely and effectively.

Side effects are terrible. I had a bad reaction but my doc switched me to warfarin and I've had no issues since. Might want to discuss with your doctor if you're having problems.

I've been on dalteparin for a year now after a knee replacement, and honestly, the side effects are a small price to pay for the peace of mind.

I've never had any serious side effects with dalteparin, but I know someone who did and had to switch to an alternative. How did your doctor explain the side effects when you first got it? Currently preparing for surgery and warned but didn't think I'd have to deal with this.

I've had some mild bruising at the injection site, but nothing too serious. Just make sure to apply gentle pressure after injecting to help stop any bleeding. I actually ask my spouse to do it for me. The worst part is when it's time to inject and you just don't want to.
