Hello everyone, I was recently prescribed Gemcitabine 1gm/10ml Inj, 10ml for cancer treatment. The side effects listed are extensive, and I'm not sure what to expect. I've heard from friends that some people experience severe issues, while others have a much smoother time. I'm seeking advice from anyone who has gone through this treatment. What can I expect as a new patient? My doctor mentioned it's a chemotherapy drug that interferes with cancer cell growth and is administered via an injection into a vein. I want to stay informed and prepared for what's ahead. Anyone who has stories to share about how they coped with the journey would be really helpful. Additionally, I appreciate any advice that could really help me understand the reporting side effects — upvotes to those who share the link to the online FDA reporting page.

Feeling sleepy was my main issue. I had to sleep pretty much all day. I even missed important meetings, but I just couldn't help it. But honestly, it's worth it if it fights the cancer. My doctor suggested managing fatigue with short walks and small meals. Outside of that, just rest.

Gemcitabine was a nightmare for me. I developed severe dizziness and fainting spells. It was so bad that I had to stop treatment for a while. My advice is to keep a close eye on those symptoms and talk to your doctor immediately if you feel something is seriously wrong. And for God's sake, don't let them put you off by telling it's rare. We are not really statistics, we're real people

I took Gemcitabine for my pancreatic cancer, and while it was tough, knowing the side effects helped me prepare. The most challenging part was the flu-like symptoms and the constant fatigue. I found keeping a journal helped track what was normal and what wasn’t. I also had to watch out for signs of an allergic reaction, electrolyte problems, and severe dizziness.

What did you guys do for the upchucking? I feel the constant vomiting is going to get me.

Super helpful thread. I’m considering this treatment but was worried about the side effects. Thank you all for sharing your experiences!

I experienced some electrical issues in my brain, bad enough that I had seizures. Had to skip my next injection and ended up having to do cortisone. Doc said it's an electrolyte imbalance. Watch out for this.

You know, my sister went through this. She had to deal with some pretty bad stomach issues and she lost a ton of weight from the vomiting.

I dealt with it by avoiding heavy meals and sticking to light, frequent snacks. My doctor also prescribed anti-nausea meds that helped a lot.

Did anyone experience hair loss? That's one of my biggest concerns.

I had some unpleasant mouth sores and mouth irritation, but managing them was straightforward. Tons of dental hygiene and regular checkups. Get a good toothpaste with fluoride, use a soft toothbrush and keep everything clean. You'll be fine.
