Glassia is a medication (specifically Glassia 1000mg/50ml Inj, 1 Vial) designed to help those with A1PI deficiency. This genetic condition means your body doesn't produce enough alpha1-proteinase inhibitor (A1PI), leaving your lungs vulnerable to damage. Glassia infusions can help protect your lungs from further damage, but like any medication, it comes with potential side effects. I've been on it for a few months now, and I'm curious about other people's experiences. What side effects have you encountered, and how have you managed them? Also, curious to know if anyone has switched to other treatments and why.

I have to agree, it’s not fun but it is worth it. Remember you are preventing further damage and doing what’s best for your lungs.

Allergic reactions are rare but can be serious. Make sure you know the signs and have a plan in place if they happen. I've heard that keeping an emergency kit with antihistamines and an EpiPen can be a good idea, but talk to your doctor about it.

I've been pretty lucky with Glassia. No major side effects so far, just a bit of back pain. Also, I can't believe more people aren't discussing how good the staff at the infusion centers are.

What's the alternative treatments? I'm considering switching if the side effects get any worse.

I had a pretty rough experience with it. About a week into my treatment, I started getting these strange hives on my chest and arms. It turned out I was allergic to some component in the infusion. I had to switch to a different treatment.

I've heard that some people experience flu-like symptoms after the infusion. That's been my experience too, but it's manageable with some over-the-counter meds and rest. Just make sure to keep hydrated and take it easy for a day or two after.
