I've been using Guaifenesin 100mg/5ml Liquid to help with my persistent chest congestion, and I've seen some mild side effects. I'm curious about others' experiences and if anyone has more information about the potential side effects. Has anyone experienced any of the more severe side effects like swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat?

I had a pretty severe allergic reaction to guaifenesin. I went to the ER and had to get an epi-pen because I couldn't breathe. I'm not sure what that means for me in the future because I've taken it before and had no problems.

I took this stuff every day for a week and it made me so nauseous I could not eat, but it did thin out the mucus. I think next time I have a chest infection I'll try a different brand if possible.

Always good to remember to report any side effects to the FDA. Safety first!

I've had some mild dizziness, but nothing too bad. I've also found doing a steam bath helps loosen up my chest while on the drugs.

This thread is full of mixed info. I just want to know if I should be taking it or not. I also take a prescription but I don't remember the name. I have insurance but it doesn't cover prescriptions. So, I have to pay 60 bucks a month. I'm not sure if the elderly discount applies because I'm not sure if I'm considered elderly by the pharmacy.

Guaifenesin is great, but I've had better luck with Mucinex in the past. Anyone else prefer Mucinex?

I've been using Guaifenesin for years and have never had any issues. It's been a lifesaver for my bronchitis.

I've had bad reactions to other medications so I've been really worried about trying guaifenesin. Seems like a mixed bag from what I'm reading here. I think I'll stick with my natural remedies for now.

I'm a healthcare professional, and I see a lot of patients worried about side effects. While rare, if you experience any of the severe side effects, seek medical help immediately. If you're worried about side effects and want information, you can always report them to the FDA. It's a great way to help other patients and get the side effects out there. Take a couple of steps first: talk to your pharmacist, then your doctor. Your health should be number one. Keep in mind the FDA regualtes this stuff, and if they see enough reports, they may investigate and make a change. It's important to report so that others are protected.
