Had to drink 120ml of Gastrografin for a CT scan. Am I the only one who dreads this? Share your experiences.
For those who have undergone medical imaging involving Gastrografin Solution 120ml, you might be familiar with the taste and potential side effects. I had a recent CT scan that required me to drink this iodine-containing contrast, and while it did its job well, it was certainly an unpleasant experience. I've heard that some people don’t have any issues, while others have varying degrees of discomfort and side effects. How has your experience been? Did you get it orally or as an enema? What were the side effects if any? I’m curious to know if anyone has any tips to make this process more bearable. I had stomach cramps, heartburn, and a general feeling of nausea, but thankfully, nothing too severe. Curious to know if others had similar experiences.

I think those who are about to take Gastrografin should really be informed about the thyroid problems and fluid problems. Those signs are not always taken seriously, but they can be important. I think we should all, as a community, have a word with our doctors about this, or at least be more aware of the symptoms. It is always important to listen to your body. If you feel something off, don't just discard it. It might be important.
This was interesting. I had no side effects at all. That was a relief, I was really worried. Maybe it's different depending on the concentration or dosage, I don't know. I just know I went in for my scan thinking it was going to be horrible, but it wasn't. I might have just gotten lucky.
I also had to drink it, and it was awful. I ended up with a bit of a headache and some dizziness. But at least it was only a few hours of discomfort instead of a prolonged problem
If you sleep before or after taking it, you should be fine. My friend took it, and she felt like she was dying. But it was just after she drank it. Right after drinking the solution, just lay back and rest while letting your body absorb the iodine. I think it was a good way for her to do it. It's always good to have a resting period after confronting such a strong chemical, whatever the dosage.
I had it last year, and I actually didn’t have any symptoms at all. Not even a hiccup. Took it in the morning, had my scan, and continued with my day. But my body also didn’t reject it, so I think it’s also important to be aware of your own body, and how it might react. Some people just don't have any need to worry.
I completely agree, it’s not just the bad taste or any minor side effects. I had a friend who had real bad side effects include muscle pain and seizures. He was really scared and ended up staying in the hospital. By the way, if you get any of those side effects, do seek help immediately. There might not be need to worry, but it's better to be careful and call a doctor.
Personally, I’d rather have a root canal than drink that stuff again. The cravings weren’t too bad, and the symptoms were short-lived, but still not fun. Maybe if they made it come in a better flavor, or at least in a cocktail of some sort. If you have any luck sharing this with your doctor, let me know.
I had a friend who had an allergic reaction to it. Swollen face and throat. It was scary, and he had to go to the hospital. So yeah, it’s not just about the bad taste, I don't think this is something to take lightly.
