I was recently prescribed Vancomycin 1000mg Inj (ad-Vantage) to treat a severe bacterial infection resistant to many other antibiotics, like MRSA. I've never taken something this powerful before. My doctor explained that it works by stopping the bacteria from building their protective outer walls, which kills them, but the side effects seem very severe. Has anyone had experience dealing with these? Especially managing the possible kidney issues?

This is a powerful antibiotic, but the side effects can be intense. Make sure to stay hydrated and monitor your urine output closely. Drink plenty of water and avoid any medication that could potentially damage your kidneys, even if it's just over-the-counter drugs. Talk to your doctor immediately if you notice any blood in your urine.

Don't worry, it's normal to feel overwhelmed. Just remember that you're in a hospital or clinic and professionals are around to help. If you feel like you're not getting the support or knowledge you need, do not be afraid to ask more questions of the staff. Understanding is only half the battle.

I had to get it a few months ago, and yeah, it's not a walk in the park. Doing a lot of research is best as it will help you know what to expect. For me, the worst was the intense flushing during infusion. But the nurse helped slow down the infusion and I felt better.

Ah the joys of antibiotics. Trust me, no one expects you to feel like you're back to normal. It's pretty normal to feel a bit off. Just make sure you're taking it easy and not overdoing it. Just stick to your doctor's orders, and you should be fine. Recovering too fast can be dangerous.

I feel your pain. Just keep an eye out for those severe skin reactions. If you notice any sores in your mouth, throat, or skin, make sure to get medical help quickly. It could be a sign of something very serious. The most important thing is to get better, so don't worry about feeling weak. Your body will need time to recover. You should also understand that you'd need to take probiotics to help manage the side effects.

I have heard that some people experience dizziness or fainting because of low blood pressure. If that happens, let your nurse know and they'll adjust the infusion rate. Remember to get plenty of rest and avoid heavy activities. Your body needs all the energy to fight the infection. Couldn't you just take a drink lol.

I had this a few years back, and it was a pretty rough experience. The important part is to stay in close contact with your doctor. I had some allergic reactions, and luckily I got treatment in time. I'd recommend carrying an epi-pen just in case.

Be careful with the IV. I had a friend who had tissue damage because the medication leaked from the vein. If you feel any pain, redness, or swelling, let the nurse know immediately. Also, keep an eye out for any other injection site issues.

Stay really careful with your skin, too. It can cause some unpleasant skin reactions. If you notice any blisters or peeling, let your doctor know right away. Also, I found that it helped to keep the area around my IV clean and dry.

I've always found that a good attitude helps in situations like this. When you've got a serious infection, it's important to stay positive and focused on getting better. But remember; listening to your body is just as important. If something feels off, trust your instincts and contact your doctor.
