I was prescribed Bactroban 2% Ointment 22gm for impetigo, and I was wondering if anyone else has had severe side effects from it. I've been using it for a few days, and while it seems to be working, I've noticed some pretty intense irritation at the application site. I'm hoping it's just a minor reaction, but I'm a bit worried, especially after reading about the potential for severe allergic reactions. Did anyone else go through something similar, and what did you do? If this is normal, how long does it typically last? Any advice from someone who has been there would be appreciated.

Did you try switching to a different brand or generic? Sometimes the generic versions can cause more irritation. In my case, the generic gave me hives, but the brand-name stuff was totally fine.

I always get upset stomach with antibiotics. I just take it with some food and I'm good. But if you get any other side effects, see your doctor.

Severe irritation is not fun. I had a friends who had the same problem. Try taking some Benadryl if you are not allergic to antihistamines. It can help with the itching while the ointment does its job.

I've never had any issues with it, but everyone is different. Just keep an eye on it and if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, go to the ER immediately. Better safe than sorry!

I can't believe some of the side effects listed. I had no idea an antibiotic ointment could cause such serious issues. Sounds scary. But I guess it's better to be informed.

I always joke that the pharmacy must have a 'mix-up' special every day when they fill prescriptions. I've had a handful of adverse reactions, and I'm not sorry to hear yours are mild. It's a lesser evil.
