I've been taking Ferrous Sulfate for a few weeks now to treat my iron deficiency anemia, but I've been experiencing some pretty intense stomach pain and vomiting. I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar issues or if there are any tips to manage these side effects. I've read that it can cause serious side effects like fever and bloody stools, but I haven't experienced those yet. Just looking for some insight and maybe some suggestions on how to deal with the discomfort. My doctor suggested taking it with food and reducing the dose, but I'm not sure if those will help a lot. The change in stool color to green has been kind of gross, but I've been told that's normal. Any advice from those who have been through this would be greatly appreciated. Also, wondering what other people's experiences with side effects have been like.

I had really bad diarrhea when I first started taking it. I made sure to always have it with a meal and it seemed to help a lot. I also found that taking it with vitamin C helps to absorb it better.

This thread is scary! I just started Ferrous Sulfate and now I'm worried about all these side effects. I hope it doesn't get to the point where I have to quit and find another medication.

Oh man, the green stools are the worst. But yeah, that's normal with iron supplements.

Did you know that you can also get iron from your diet? Foods like red meat, poultry, fish, and leafy greens are high in iron. Sometimes, adjusting your diet can help you avoid some of the side effects of supplements.
