I was prescribed Meclizine 12.5mg tablets to manage my motion sickness during long road trips. However, I've started experiencing some alarming side effects like severe drowsiness and extreme dry mouth. I've read that these can be common, but I'm worried about the potential for more serious issues. Has anyone else had similar experiences, or worse? What precautions should I take? And what are some alternative remedies if I decide to stop taking Meclizine?

Glad I’m not the only one feeling this way! I’ve started to feel the dry mouth too, but I've dealt with it by using salted hard candies like lemon drops to keep my mouth hydrated.

Who else has tried this for vertigo? I feel like it works fine, but the side effects get to me.

Meclizine is a bit of a wild card. Used it before driving to a concert, ended up sleeping through the whole thing! The drowsiness was just too intense. I switched to a different medication but you might want to try to just stick with Meclizine and drink lots of water.

As someone who suffers from vertigo, I'm used to Meclizine. But then again, my prescription is 25mg, not 12.5. You may want to consider asking your doctor to up the dose slightly and see if the effects change. More medication can sometimes cause different side effects, but be careful if you choose to go this route.

I’ve never taken Meclizine, but I’ve had bad reactions to other antihistamines. The dry mouth and drowsiness are common. And drowsiness can mess with you if you're driving. The worst I've heard, though, is the occasional allergic reactions. That's scary.

I've always had a bit of motion sickness, and it's only in the last year that I've tried Meclizine. I agree, the drowsiness is tough. I had to switch to taking it at night rather than during the day after almost falling asleep at the wheel one too many times.

I took Meclizine on my last long flight to prevent nausea and it helped. I did feel sleepy, but it was fine since I was on a red-eye flight. Make sure to drink lots of water and use lip balm if you feel your mouth dry out. I think the drowsiness and dry mouth are manageable, but definitely talk to your doctor if it gets worse.
