I recently started taking Nitrofurantoin Macro 50mg Capsules to treat a recurring urinary tract infection. The doctor mentioned it's common for antibiotics to cause some side effects, but I've been experiencing severe stomach pain and diarrhea. I've also noticed some unusual nerve sensations like tingling and numbness in my fingers. I'm worried about these symptoms and want to know if anyone else has had similar experiences. I tried to check the side effects online, but they didn't mention this. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm sorry to hear that but glad you're okay now. Don't ignore the symptoms. Nitrofurantoin can cause some pretty serious side effects. If you're experiencing neurological symptoms, it might be worth discussing with a neurologist. My mom had tingling and numbness for a while, and she thought it was from an old injury. It turned out to be a minor nerve problem. The doctor said that it could be triggered by antibiotics. Once she finished the medication, it went away. Stay vigilant.

You should listen to your body. Antibiotic side effects require a serious discussion with your doctor. It's worth consulting a specialist.

Nitrofurantoin can cause some weird side effects. I never had neurological ones, but I had some really intense stomach pain and diarrhea at the start. I was constantly running to the bathroom

That sounds really concerning. I've had UTIs before, but my doctor never prescribed Nitrofurantoin. I was usually given Ciprofloxacin or another similar antibiotic. Make sure to speak to your doctor about this.

This sounds really horrible. Have you thought about not taking it at all? I took it for a UTI and it was no problem. Was it yellow? If it was yellow, make sure to promptly finish the course. One of my friends decided to stop the antibiotics because of the severe yellow diarrhoea and experienced a UTI.

The nerve issues are not fun. It causes a burning sensation when you urinate. It looks like a really bad night. Could you try to get something stronger or a different antibiotic?
