I've been using Hydrocortisone Val 0.2% Oint 60gm for my eczema for a few weeks now, but I've started noticing some pretty severe side effects. Specifically, I've been experiencing a lot of skin thinning and irritation at the site of application. Has anyone else dealt with these issues? Are there any tricks to mitigate them? My doctor recommended continuing the treatment, but I'm starting to worry because it feels like the side effects might be getting worse.

I think it's normal to have some irritation initially, should go away pretty quickly. What does your doctor say?

I've had some irritation and tingling but not thinning. Maybe try using a thinner layer and spreading it on more than rubbing in. Also, maybe use it less frequently?

Stinging and burning can be common, but think you're right, the thinning part is not normal and probably should be discussed with a medical person.

My doctor actually recommended using a moisturizer before applying the Hydrocortisone Val 0.2% Oint 60gm to help reduce irritation. It's been working well so far. I'd also check with your doctor to see if this might be a good option for you.

You might want to consider alternative treatments as well. For instance, topical pimecrolimus or tacrolimus might be effective as well for eczema and could be worth a shot. Just make sure to clear it with your doctor first, however.

I had a similar experience with hydrocortisone. The side effects are not always pleasant. For my face, I switched to a less potent ointment and started using a moisturizer before applying it. It helped a lot!

My skin started thinning too. I started limiting my use to once a day instead of twice. It seems to have helped, but I would still talk to your doctor about it.
