I've been using Oramagic Plus W/benzocaine for a sore throat, and while it numbed the pain, I woke up with a strange blue tint to my lips and nails. I've never heard of this drug causing such a reaction. Has anyone else had this issue? The FDA says to contact them for adverse reactions, but I think I might have to go to the ER. I'm worried that this could lead to some serious issues and I don't want to be the only one this happens to. Low and behold, the side effect list mentions something called methemoglobinemia. Anyone else had experience with that? I just want to know what the best thing to do is right now. I'm frustrated and scared.

I had a bad reaction to benzocaine once. The irritation in my mouth was so intense. Stay vigilant, everyone. If you have to use it, at least know the dangers before it’s too late.

I have a feeling if this is a real side effect, I'll never use this medicine again. Let's hope it's not methemoglobinemia. Good luck, OP.

Did you try calling the FDA? They have a 24/7 hotline for this stuff.

Oh wow, that sounds scary. I had a weird reaction to a numbing cream once, but nothing like that. Please go to the ER, you shouldn't mess around with blue lips. I hope you feel better soon.
