My dermatologist recommended applying a thin layer every other day at first, then increasing to daily if your skin tolerates it. Also, using a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser can help minimize irritation. I wish I had known about that when I started.
The gel can cause purging, which means your acne might get worse before it gets better. It took me about 6 weeks to see any real improvement, so don't give up too soon. Everyone's skin reacts differently, so it might be worth sticking it out. As long as you're not getting urticaria or any other serious reactions, stick with it.
