I've been using Phenylephrine 2.5% Ophthalmic Solution as prescribed for eye dilation before my last few eye exams. The eye drops make my pupils larger, which helps the doctor examine the inside of my eye better. But I've been experiencing some side effects, like mild stinging and sensitivity to bright lights. I've also noticed that my eyes look a bit redder than usual after the drops wear off. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Are these side effects normal, or should I be concerned? I've heard that in rare cases, it can cause more serious side effects, like signs of an allergic reaction or high blood pressure. I'm a bit worried, but I don't want to overreact. I'll be talking to my doctor about it at my next appointment, but I'd love to hear from others who've used this medication.

Dull eyes are not a good look for me. I didn't know this medicine would do that.

When I had these drops put in my eyes, I had a hard time focusing on things for a little while. It was kinda scary because I could see stuff but felt like I couldn't focus on anything. I was worried I might have some serious problem. But the doctor said it was just a side effect of the drops and would go away after a few minutes. And she was right.

I used to work at an optometrist and we used these drops all the time. They can make your eyes dry up. But you should be alright if you are just using them once in awhile.

I had some stinging too, but my eye doctor said that's pretty normal. I just held my eye closed for a minute or two and it went away. I did notice my heart rate was a bit faster than normal afterwards, but it was only for a minute or so. I figure that was just my body reacting to the drops and it wasn't serious. I looked it up though, and apparently, some people get those symptoms. But I think they were pretty mild for me.

I've always wondered what the difference was between eye drops that make your pupils bigger and the ones that make your eyes less red. Do they work in the same way?

You should definitely talk to a doctor if you are worried about the side effects. They are trained to help you.

I've had no problems with these drops. I use them every year when I get my eye exam. No stinging, no redness, and no light sensitivity.
