I'm curious to hear from anyone who has been administered Diprivan (Propofol) 10mg/ml Inj, 100ml. It's a fast-acting anesthetic used during medical procedures, but I've heard it can have some serious side effects. I've read about Propofol infusion syndrome (PRIS), which sounds terrifying, and I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced it or knows someone who has. How common is it, and what are the signs to watch out for? Also, are there any long-term effects to be aware of? My doctor mentioned it briefly, but I want to be fully informed. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Appreciate everyone sharing their experiences. It's good to be informed. I'm just hoping I never need it again. Fingers crossed!

I've worked in the ICU and have seen a few cases of PRIS. It's scary stuff. We had to act fast to stop the infusion and get the patient stabilized. Early signs are often missed, so vigilance is key.

I've heard that tissue damage can occur if the medication leaks from the vein. How common is this? And what exactly does it look like?

Propofol is definitely fast-acting and wears off quickly, which is great for procedures. But the side effects can be nasty. Drowsiness and coughing are minor compared to the life-threatening stuff.

Propofol is generally quite safe for short-term use, but yes, PRIS is a serious concern with long-term infusions. It can cause metabolic acidosis, heart failure, and even death in severe cases. Symptoms include confusion, muscle weakness, and rapid heartbeat. It's crucial to monitor patients closely during long-term use.

I had a friend who had a severe allergic reaction to Propofol. It was horrible to see. They ended up in the ER with difficulty breathing and hives all over. It's rare, but it can happen.

I've never had any issues with it. My doctor said the side effects are rare. Hope it works for you if you ever need it!

I've had Diprivan a few times for endoscopies. Never experienced any major side effects, but I did feel pretty groggy afterwards. Didn't even remember the procedure.

Tissue damage from leaking Propofol can cause redness, burning, and even skin sores. It's not super common, but it's something nurses need to watch out for. Informing the nurse right away if you feel any pain or see redness is important.
