I was recently prescribed Fosinopril-HCTZ 20mg/12.5mg Tablets for high blood pressure. I've been taking them for a couple of weeks now, and while they seem to be doing the job, I can't shake the fear of experiencing some of the more severe side effects listed. I've read about issues like allergic reactions, kidney problems, and even skin cancer. Has anyone else had any severe side effects from this medication? How did you handle them? I'm particularly worried about the eye problems and fluid and electrolyte issues. Any advice or shared experiences would be appreciated.

I've had some of the electrolyte issues, like muscle weakness and dizziness. Make sure you're staying hydrated and eating plenty of potassium-rich foods. It's been a game changer for me.

I've been on this medication for over a year, and so far, so good. Just a persistent cough, which isn't too bad

I had a really persistent cough for the first couple of months. It was annoying, but I talked to my doctor and found it was a common side effect. I just had to suck it up and wait it out and it eventually went away.

I switched to this combination because of the persistent cough. I was told by my cardiologist that the side effect was less likely to occur with this drug than with some others. And so far, it's true! Just make sure you're drinking enough water. Also, I went through the process of getting a wearable blood pressure monitor to keep watch on my BP and I'm thrilled with it. I think as long as you stay on top of your BP and communicate about any concerns with your doc on a regular basis, you should be fine.

I had to stop taking it because of a severe allergic reaction. I ended up in the ER with swelling and difficulty breathing. Scariest thing ever. I switched to another blood pressure medication and I'm hoping for the best.

You're right to be cautious. Keep an eye out for any changes in your skin as well. I had a friend who developed a weird rash that turned out to be a type of skin cancer.

This is the third hypertension medication I've tried, and it's the first one that hasn't given me terrible headaches. I've been pretty lucky. Fingers crossed!
