Has anyone experienced severe side effects from Kepivance (Palifermin) injections?
I'm scheduled to start Kepivance injections as part of my pre-stem cell transplant treatment. The doctor mentioned it helps protect the mouth and throat from damage, which is great, but I'm a bit worried about the potential side effects. The list is quite long, and some sound really serious. I had a weird change in taste after my first few doses. It went away after a week or so. But yeah, the joint pain was pretty bad, so make sure you have some pain meds on hand if you need them.
I had swelling, thought it was cause for concern, but my doc wasn't worried. Make sure your doctor checks you out for that.
My mom had this a few years ago with no side effects, but she already had some mucus in her throat, so doctors were careful about the dosage. Make sure that happens to you for any new meds.
Just had my first dose and I can already feel some numbness in my mouth. Is this normal? I'm not sure if I should wait or call the doctor right away.
Did anyone experience any fever after the injection? My friend said it was normal for them, but he did mention a lot of swelling. There was an allergic reaction and they were immediately put on a different dosage.
I had Kepivance before my transplant and it was a game-changer. No severe side effects, but joint pain was a bit annoying. Just be prepared to call your doctor immediately if you experience any of those urgent symptoms.
