I was prescribed Megestrol to help with weight gain due to an underlying health condition. I've heard mixed things about the side effects, especially the severe ones. Anyone else on this medication? How has your experience been? Specifically, I'm curious about the more serious side effects like allergic reactions or tumor flare reactions. It's a bit scary to think about these, and I want to know if there are specific symptoms I should be extra vigilant about.

I’ve heard that the side effects can vary widely from person to person. Just keep an eye out for any unusual symptoms. For me, it was mostly just increased appetite and some hot flashes, which were manageable. If you experience anything severe, definitely contact your doctor right away.

This stuff is amazing for appetite. I gained weight easily. I’ve heard of others having weird side effects, but I’m just using it for a short while to bulk up, so no big deal for me.

I'm actually really scared of the potential for blood clots. I had a family member who experienced that, and it was terrifying. If you notice any signs, get help right away. It's serious stuff.

I was on Megestrol for about six months. The worst part for me was the weight gain—I gained about 20 pounds in the first three months. But otherwise, it was manageable. However, I did feel more fatigued than usual, which was tough to deal with. Also, I got a rash on my face after a few weeks. It was severe, so I stopped taking it right away and it seemed to go away.

Hey, can anyone clear this up? Is weight loss a side effect? I was prescribed it for cancer and gained 20 pounds, which was helpful but then I lost 10 when I stopped taking it. Did anyone else experience this?

I had a friend who started taking Megestrol and within a week he started having headaches, feeling dizzy and swelling in the arms. They had to stop immediately. Sounds serious, but it wasn't life threatening. He’s okay after getting off the medication.
