I have recently been prescribed Methimazole 5mg Tablets and while I'm hopeful it will help manage my hyperthyroidism, I am also wary of the potential side effects. The medication guide lists some serious side effects like allergic reactions, liver problems, and even kidney issues. Has anyone here had similar experiences? I'm particularly concerned about the rare but severe side effects like lupus and low blood sugar. I want to be prepared and know what to watch out for. Are there any tips or advice from people who have been on this medication long-term? Thanks in advance!

I've been on Methimazole for about a year now, and while I did experience some minor side effects like hair loss and joint pain, nothing too serious. It was scary at first, but my doctor closely monitored my condition, and I've had a positive experience overall. Just make sure to have regular blood tests to keep an eye on your thyroid levels and liver function.

I've been on Methimazole for a while and have developed a bit of a cough. It's not too bad, but it's weird because I don't usually have any respiratory issues. I mentioned it to my doctor, and she said it could be a side effect. Just something to keep in mind. I don't know if it can lead to anything more serious, but it's worth mentioning if you start to feel any symptoms like that.

I switched to a lower dose and it seems to be working better. Was having some stomach issues with the 5mg. Might be worth a chat with your doctor.

Just started Methimazole myself. Hopefully, it works for me like it does for others here. Fingers crossed!

Feeling sleepy is normal at first, don't worry about it too much.

I had a weird rash on my face after starting Methimazole. Turns out it was a sign of lupus. Scary stuff, but my doc caught it early. Get regular checkups, folks!

I was really worried about the side effects too, but my doctor explained that most people don't experience the serious ones. It's definitely helped regulate my thyroid. I've had some itching and fatigue, but nothing too bad. Just make sure you're on low dose, as it can be more gentle on the body. Listen to your body and talk to your doctor if anything feels off.

Didn't know about the low blood sugar risks. Good to keep an eye on that.
