I'm scheduled for a CT scan next week, and my doctor mentioned that they'll be using Omnipaque 350mg/ml Inj, 500ml as the contrast agent. I've read about the potential side effects, especially the urgent ones like allergic reactions and thyroid problems, and I'm really worried. Has anyone here had experience with this contrast agent? I'd love to hear about any side effects you might have experienced and how you dealt with them. Are there any tips or preparations I should know about to make sure I'm safe? I've heard that some people have had severe reactions, which makes me nervous. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had a bad reaction to Omnipaque a few years back. I woke up with a rash all over my body. I ended up going to the ER. I had to take a bunch of allergy medication and steroids so it went away. It was scary as I had it injected into my vein. If you have a history of severe allergies, make sure to let your doctor know. They might need to switch the contrast agent.

I had a horrible experience with Omnipaque. I was sweating and my heart was pounding. I kept telling the doctor I was having a stroke. He said it was the Omnipaque. I ended up having a heart attack and had to spend 4 days in the hospital. My heart was weak and my blood pressure was sky high. My doctor is worried I'll have a stroke because of this. I will never use Omnipaque again!

I had an angiogram with Omnipaque and felt like I was having a heart attack. I could feel my heart racing and I couldn't breathe. I had a seizure and woke up in the ER. It was a really scary experience, but I'm okay now. The nurse said I might be more sensitive to Omnipaque than others. I think they are going to change the contrast agent for my next test.

This is scary. I am having a CT scan in a few days and I will definitely let my doctor know I am worried about this. Can they test me for a reaction before the CT scan, like a skin test? How reliable is that?

I had spine injection with omnipaque and felt like something was leaking into my spinal fluid. It was really scary. The doctor said it was just the contrast agent leaking out from the vein. I got a bad rash and the doctor said it was a reaction. I went home and it went away within 3 days. Thankfully, neither my vision nor my throat were impacted.

So, if you can't have Omnipaque, what other options are there? I've read about different contrast agents like Iodinated Contrast Media. Are they any better? My insurance will probably get us bumped straight to the ER. Hopefully, I don't get any serious side effects.

I had a CT scan with Omnipaque and had a burning sensation in my arm. I told the nurse I had a burning sensation and she said the agent leaked out. She said the tissue was affected by omnipaque because of the burn. It was a little scary, but the nurse gave me a steroid injection and the burning sensation went away. I did end up with really bad swelling. I had to go back and have it drained.
