Has anyone experienced severe side effects from Proparacaine 0.5% Ophthalmic Solution?
I recently had an eye exam where Proparacaine 0.5% Ophthalmic Solution was used. The doctor mentioned it would temporarily numb my eye, but I'm curious if anyone has experienced any of the severe side effects listed, such as changes in eyesight or severe eye irritation. I heard some people mention burning or stinging, which I experienced a bit, but I'm more concerned about the urgent side effects. Has anyone had any issues, or should I be okay if I avoid rubbing my eyes? I'm considering another round of tests due to some odd symptoms I have, and I'm worried that the drops might have something to do with it. A little bit of light research can be scary, so I'm asking for some real-world experiences to help me calm down.

I had a friend who used this and had a severe allergic reaction. Ended up in the ER. It's rare, but it happens. Be careful.
I'm surprised this isn't more common. I had to get one of those metal things in my eye to check for glaucoma, it looked awful. But the numbing drops were a godsend.
Burning or stinging is normal, but if you're feeling something worse, it might be worth it to check in with your doctor. Always better to be safe.
I've used it multiple times and never had any problems. But I agree, if you're experiencing odd symptoms, it's always better to talk to your doctor.
I had a bad reaction once. My eye was irritated for hours. I might be allergic to it. I stick with other anesthetic drops for my tests now
I just remember the first time I used it I felt a weird sensation. It was only for a second but it was rough. You might just be overreacting a bit.
