Has anyone experienced side effects from Loniten 10mg Tablets for hypertension?
I've been prescribed Loniten 10mg Tablets to manage my severe hypertension, which hasn't responded well to other medications. I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects, especially the fluid retention and fast heartbeat. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? I'd love to hear about your journey and any tips you might have for dealing with the side effects. Here are some details about my situation and the medication: Minoxidil is a medication used to treat very high blood pressure (hypertension) that hasn't responded to other medicines. It works by relaxing and widening your blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and lowering your blood pressure. Because it can cause fluid retention and a fast heartbeat, it's almost always prescribed along with a water pill (diuretic) and a beta-blocker.
While rare, this medication can cause severe and potentially life-threatening side effects. If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor or seek medical help right away:
- Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
- Rash
- Hives
- Itching
- Red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever
- Wheezing
- Tightness in the chest or throat
- Trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking
- Unusual hoarseness
- Swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Shortness of breath
- New or worsening chest, arm, or shoulder pain
- Dizziness or fainting
- Fast or abnormal heartbeat
- Severe or persistent heartburn
- Changes in hearing or eyesight
Additionally, this medication may cause fluid retention, leading to swelling, weight gain, or breathing difficulties. If you notice any of these symptoms, inform your doctor promptly.
Like all medications, this drug can cause side effects, although many people may not experience any or may only have mild symptoms. If you are bothered by any of the following side effects or if they persist, contact your doctor or seek medical help:
- Excessive hair growth
- Upset stomach or vomiting
This is not an exhaustive list of potential side effects. If you have questions or concerns about side effects, consult your doctor. You can also report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-332-1088 or online at https://www.fda.gov/medwatch..

Loniten worked wonders for my blood pressure, but the excessive hair growth was a surprise. I had to start shaving areas I never had to before.
Be careful with the fast heartbeat side effect. I had to stop taking it because it was too much for my body to handle.
Anyone else notice changes in their eyesight? I'm having trouble reading for long periods.
I've been on Loniten for a few months now, and the fluid retention has been a bit annoying, but manageable with a low-salt diet. My doctor also prescribed a diuretic, which helps a lot. Don't worry too much, just stay in touch with your doctor.
