I was prescribed Imuran (Azathioprine) 50mg Tablets for my rheumatoid arthritis. The medication works by suppressing my immune system, which helps with the inflammation, but I'm worried about the side effects. I've read about potential infections, increased cancer risk, and even a rare but serious brain condition called PML. I'm wondering if anyone else has taken this medication and what their experiences have been, especially regarding any serious side effects. I want to know if these risks are really as significant as they seem, or if they are rare enough not to worry too much about. What have been your experiences?

Seriously, though, the idea of PML is terrifying. I hope it’s as rare as they say.

It’s so important to listen to your body and report any weird symptoms to your doctor. Azathioprine is a strong medication, and it’s not something you can mess around with.

I had a mild allergic reaction to it—just some itching and a rash. My doctor switched me to another medication and it was fine. I was lucky it wasn’t serious, but it makes me wonder if anyone else has had similar issues.

I had no idea about the risk of infections and cancers. I've been on it for a while and feel fine, but I might need to talk to my doctor about it. Thanks for the heads-up. The fact you haven't had any serious side effects yet is good news, but it's important to remain vigilant.

I've been on Imuran for a few years now and it's been a godsend for my RA. I haven't experienced any serious side effects, just some upset stomach at first but it went away after a few weeks. I make sure to get regular blood tests to monitor my liver and blood cell counts, just as my doctor recommended. It's important to stay vigilant, but so far, it's been worth it for the relief from my symptoms.
