I've been taking Abacavir 20mg/ml Oral Solution as part of my HIV treatment regimen for a few months now, and I've had some side effects that weren't listed in the initial information. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced or knows anything about the following: Headaches that are sometimes severe, especially in the morning, nausea that hasn't been helped by any usual remedies, and bad dreams. I've read the list of possible side effects, and these aren't mentioned. I'm curious if anyone has experienced anything similar or knows if there are any other common side effects that aren't widely known. I've been taking the medication consistently as prescribed, and my doctor hasn't had much advice for these symptoms, but I think they might be related to the Abacavir. I am trying not to worry, but it's tough when some symptoms come and go in waves. If anyone has any insights or similar experiences they'd be willing to share, I'd really appreciate it!

I’ve been on Abacavir for a while and haven’t had any major issues, but I did experience some weird dreams for the first few weeks. They got better over time, so maybe just give it a bit more time and see if it changes. Hang in there!

Bad dreams sound terrifying. What does your doctor say?

Have you looked into possible interactions with other medications or foods? Sometimes the cause can be unexpected. And if you haven't already, consider downloading a medication interaction checker app.

This really hit home. I experienced similar side effects. I started Abacavir three months ago, and the headaches were awful at first. I took some over-the-counter pain relievers and talked to my doctor, who suggested waiting a couple more months to see if the side effects persisted. After four months, they mostly went away. However, I still get occasional bad dreams. It's worth the trade-off for the virus suppression. The doctor also mentioned that these side effects are pretty normal for some folks and can vary from person to person. Just make sure your doctor is aware of everything and keep a log of when you feel things the worst. You might catch a pattern

Abacavir is a powerful drug, but it can have some tough side effects. It took me a while to stabilize, but now I feel a lot better. Don't be discouraged. Keep talking to your doctor, and they'll help you figure it out. Stay strong and hang in there!

Can't wait for the bad dreams to end. Maybe they'll go away after some time.

I've heard that headaches can be a side effect, but they're usually mild. If your headaches are severe, you might want to bring it up with your doctor again. Sometimes it takes a second conversation. Also, it might be worth checking if any of your other meds could be interacting with Abacavir.
