I've recently been prescribed the Methylene blue 50mg/10ml Injection, 10ml to treat methemoglobinemia. The drug is given intravenously to help my red blood cells carry oxygen properly. I've read that it can turn urine and skin blue, which is a bit concerning. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? What were your side effects? I'm especially curious to hear from those who have experienced any of the serious side effects, as well as those with other possible side effects. Does it really turn urine and skin blue? I'm unsure what to expect. I’m also wondering if there are any long-term effects or if the benefits outweigh the risks. I’d appreciate any insights into the potential for side effects beyond what's listed. I noticed it has a lot of serious side effects listed, so I'm also wondering if anyone has any tips for managing any of these.

The blue urine is pretty wild. My doctor said it’s normal, but it’s still weird.

Be careful with this one. I had a bad experience with it. I think it made me allergic.

I had to take this for a case of severe methemoglobinemia. The blue urine was unsettling, but my doctor explained it was just the dye from the medication. I experienced some dizziness and stomach upset, but nothing too severe. The key is to communicate openly with your healthcare provider. Make sure you know the signs of a severe reaction and seek help if you experience any, like trouble breathing, abnormal heartbeat, or seizures.

I’ve never heard of this medication before. Sounds intense.

Methylene Blue can indeed turn your urine a dark blue or even green color. It's an expected side effect and not harmful. Just be prepared for the color change, it can be startling if you're not expecting it. Also, you might experience some tummy issues and mild headaches.
