I've been doing some research on Sodium Bicarbonate 8.4% Inj, 10ml and its use in treating acute acidosis. It's fascinating how this simple compound can be so crucial in emergency situations. I've read that it's often used for severe kidney problems or certain types of poisoning, which makes sense given its ability to reduce acidity. However, I'm a bit worried about the potential side effects. Has anyone here had personal experience with this treatment, either as a patient or a caregiver? I'd love to hear about any insights or advice you might have. It's also interesting to note the importance of reporting side effects to the FDA. I wonder how common these incidents actually are?

This thread is making me feel queasy. I'm glad I don't have to deal with this stuff.

I'm just curious if anyone knows how the dosage is determined? Is it based on weight or severity of acidosis?

My dad had it when he got poisoned by a snake bite, I remember the doctor telling us that it needed to be administered intravenously. He also told me that if there's a leak in the veins it can cause some really bad tissue damage. Anyway, my dad is doing okay now.

I work in a lab and we use sodium bicarbonate all the time for calibration of pH meters and other things. But this is a completely different scenario. I find it a bit scary that it's used in humans this way, even if it's necessary.

I've seen this used in the ER a few times when patients came in with severe acidosis. It's amazing how quickly it can stabilize someone. The nurses have to be careful with the injection site, though, because it can cause tissue damage if it leaks.

I remember being in the hospital and a teacher once telling me about how Sodium Bicarbonate can be used to treat poisoning, but always make sure the doctor is aware of it.

I get pins and needles just reading this!

This stuff is life-saving, but the side effects can be really scary. Make sure to keep an eye out for any signs of allergic reaction or muscle issues.

I had a friend who got this during a bad bout of kidney failure. It worked wonders, but he had some weird muscle spasms. Definitely kept him in the hospital longer.
