I've recently started researching treatments for a family member who has been diagnosed with moderate Alzheimer's disease. Namenda XR (Memantine XR) has come up as a potential medication, and I'm curious to hear from anyone who has experience with it. Specifically, I'd like to know about the effectiveness, common side effects, and any tips for managing them. It seems like a promising option, but I want to make sure I have a well-rounded understanding of what to expect.

I work in geriatric care and have seen Namenda XR help many patients. The key is to start with the lowest dose and gradually increase it under medical supervision. This can help minimize side effects. Patience is key; it might take a few weeks to see any noticeable improvements, but for some patients, it can make a significant difference in their daily functioning.

I've been giving Namenda XR to my mother for about six months now. It's been a bit of a journey, but I've seen some improvements in her cognitive function. The side effects were initially tough, lots of dizziness and headaches, but they seems to have stabilized. We manage it by keeping her hydrated and ensuring she rests a lot. It's a slow process, but it's definitely helped in stabilizing her condition.

I wish there was a better solution. I feel like we're always playing catch-up with these medications. They help a little, but the side effects are brutal. I've had a similar experience with other Alzheimer's meds in the past.

I've heard mixed reviews in my support group. Some people swear by it, while others have had awful experiences. I think it really depends on the individual. But What kind of side effects did the person actually have? It was constipation? Because that can be managed with some dietary changes or a low dose of laxative.
