I've been taking Metformin ER 750mg 24hr Tabs for a few months now to manage my type 2 diabetes, and while it seems to be helping with my blood sugar levels, I've recently developed some other side effects. I woke up last night with really bad stomach pain and nausea. I've been reading about lactic acidosis as a side effect. Has anyone else had any similar experiences? My doc said it's rare but I can't help but be a little worried about the risk

I had some pretty bad side effects when I first started taking Metformin, like heartburn, and a lot of gas. I got prescribed some OTC meds to help with those symptoms. If your doctor says it's OK to do so, they might help with your symptoms too. No one likes having stomach problems!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this stuff! I've been on Metformin for a bit, and I'd gladly trade personal information with you. If you want to talk about it, feel free to DM me. I can't guarantee side effects won't get worse, but I think we can figure out some kind of plan to manage it.

My doctor told me that lactic acidosis is rare but possible. If you're experiencing symptoms, I would call the office. I had a similar issue with a previous medication and it ended up being nothing. Better to have that reassurance from a professional.

I switched to the extended-release version because the regular Metformin was giving me terrible gas and diarrhea. Haven't had any issues with lactic acidosis, but I do feel a bit tired sometimes. Hopefully you can find a way to minimize the side effects!

I've had no issues with lactic acidosis, but I did experience some low blood sugar episodes at first. My doctor adjusted my diet and I've been fine since.

Lactic acidosis is serious. If you're experiencing severe stomach pain, go to the ER. Don't mess around with this stuff. It could be life threatening!

Symptoms are different for everyone, but lactic acidosis is definitely something to take seriously. You might want to consider seeing if there are alternative medications you can try instead.

I've heard that taking Metformin with food can help reduce some of the side effects. Might be worth a try if you're still having issues.

I've been on Metformin ER for years and haven't had any issues with lactic acidosis. I did have some stomach troubles at first, but they went away after a few weeks. Definitely talk to your doctor, though. Better safe than sorry!
