I recently started using Bacitracin Zinc Topical Ointment for a few minor cuts and scrapes. I've been applying it as directed, but I'm concerned about the potential side effects. The package insert mentions severe allergic reactions, including rash, hives, and difficulty breathing. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced these side effects or has had a similar experience with this medication. How common are these reactions, and what should I do if I notice any of these symptoms? It would be helpful to hear from others who have used this ointment and can offer some insights or advice. A few days ago I started to feel an itch around my wound but I haven't noticed any swelling or other symptoms. Should I be worried?

I've never had any problems with Bacitracin, but I always make sure to wash my hands before and after applying it. Also, I use a bandage to cover the area and make sure it stays clean and dry.

I had a friend who got a bad rash from Bacitracin. She had to stop using it and switch to something else. Might be worth keeping an eye on it if you start feeling a bit itchy. Did you use Bacitracin before the itch started?

You should definitely report any severe symptoms to your doctor. I've heard of people having pretty bad reactions, some of which required medical attention.

I think everyone should know the risks involved before they start using this ointment. It's better to be safe and report any side effects to the FDA if they are concerning. Even if the reactions seem minor they could escalate into a bigger issue if they are not monitored.
