I've been using Bacitracin Zinc Topical Ointment for a few weeks now to treat some minor cuts and scrapes. It seemed to be working fine at first, but recently I've started experiencing some unusual symptoms. I have a rash and some itching around the areas where I applied the ointment. I've read that these could be signs of an allergic reaction, but I'm not sure if it's something else. The product description mentions severe side effects like wheezing and swelling, but I haven't experienced those. Should I be worried about these mild symptoms, or should I continue using the ointment? Has anyone else had similar reactions? I don't want to risk any severe side effects, so I'm considering stopping the ointment altogether. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had a bad experience with Bacitracin and switched to a different antibiotic ointment. The new one worked just as well and didn't give me any side effects.

Rashes and itching can be a sign of a contact allergy to the ointment. It's better to use another topical antibiotic until you can get a proper skin reaction assessment.

I think the rash is a sign to change the ointment you are using. There are other topical antibiotics that can work just as well and might not have the same side effects.

I had a similar reaction a few years back. It was just a rash at first, but it spread quickly and I ended up with blisters. Definitely stop using it and see a doctor. Better safe than sorry.

I had a friend once who went through the same thing. He stopped using Bacitracin and the symptoms went away. But it took a while for his skin to fully recover.

Maybe it's not the ointment but something else. What kind of soap or lotion are you using on the same area?

How often are you applying the ointment? Sometimes overuse can cause reactions.

Bacitracin is great for minor cuts, but it's not meant for large wounds or deeper cuts. If you're experiencing side effects, you might be prone to reactions or using it for something it's not designed for.

Seems like you're having an allergic reaction. Best to consult a dermatologist and see how they can help you.

I've used Bacitracin for years without any issues. Make sure you're not allergic to it by trying a small patch test first.
