I was recently prescribed Thiola 100mg Tablets to manage my cystinuria, which makes me prone to kidney stones. I've been taking them for about a month now, and while I haven't had any severe side effects like the ones listed in the drug information, I've experienced some mild stomach upset and a strange metallic taste in my mouth. It's a bit tough to swallow, given that this is a lifelong treatment for what to me is an invisible health issue. I am hoping someone has some insights or even just some words of encouragement. Either way, I would really appreciate hearing others' experiences with this medication.

Has anyone else experienced a change in appetite? I've had a hard time keeping my appetite up since I started taking these. It’s been a real struggle.

I've had joint pain but my doctor said it might not be directly from the meds. It’s possible since it’s been happening recently. But yeah, definitely keep an eye on that.

I'm on my third month and I've had no major issues except for cough. I think I’m just a bit more prone to it now. I used to run all the time but now I have to rest more.

I feel like an old man sometimes. I’ve had erectile dysfunction for a while and I wonder if it’s the medication. Does anyone know if this can be a side effect?

Thiola saved my life. Literally. I was in so much pain from kidney stones that I couldn't function. It took a bit of getting used to, but now I'm stone-free and feeling great. Just make sure to stay hydrated and keep an eye on your urine output. If you notice anything unusual, talk to your doctor right away.

I've had some swelling in my legs but not too bad. It comes and goes, and I try to elevate my legs when I notice it. Seems to help.

So glad this thread exists. I thought I was the only one struggling with this. I've been on these for six months and still feel like a zombie sometimes.

I've been on Thiola for a few years now, and while it's not a walk in the park, it's definitely manageable. I found that taking it with food helps a lot with the stomach issues. As for the taste, I just power through it—it's a small price to pay for not having to deal with kidney stones. Stick with it; it gets better!
