Has anyone here taken Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate Powder for high potassium levels?
I've been prescribed Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate Powder to manage my high potassium levels due to kidney issues. I've read about the potential side effects, and I'm a bit nervous. Has anyone else taken this medication? What was your experience like? I'm particularly concerned about the serious bowel problems mentioned. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

I take this and I'm fine. But I have to say, the taste is awful. It's like swallowing chalk. I just mix it with a bunch of water and down it quickly.
I heard this can cause electrolyte problems. Make sure you stay on top of your lab work, especially if you have any symptoms.
I've been on this for a while. The side effects were mild for me—just some diarrhea and upset stomach. But my doctor also had me take stool softeners for constipation. It was a bit of an adjustment, so stick with it and communicate with your doctor.
I had a really bad experience with this drug. I ended up in the hospital with severe constipation and stomach pain. I had to stop taking it. Please be careful and monitor your symptoms closely.
It's a bit scary reading all the side effects. Just remember, everyone's different. It might be rough at first, but it could get better. Good luck!
I'm on it too. I haven't had any major side effects yet. Just a bit of an upset stomach. I take it with a glass of water, and that helps a lot.
My mom took this for a while and she had no issues at all. But every body's different. I recommend keeping a food diary to help manage any side effects you might have.
I switched to a different medication because the constipation was unbearable. Maybe you could ask your doctor about an alternative if the side effects are too bad.
I've found that taking it with a lot of water and a high-fiber diet helps a lot with the digestive issues. But yeah, the bowel problems are no joke. Stay hydrated and call your doctor if something feels off.
