I've been prescribed Flucytosine 500mg Capsules for a serious fungal infection caused by Candida. The doctor mentioned it's often used with amphotericin B. I had some weird side effects, and a few major ones. The blood in the urine was the worst, so if you experience that, go to the ER immediately. I ended up in the hospital for a few days, but I'm all clear now. Just be ready for a tough ride and listen to your body.
Also, if you experience any issues with your balance, numbness or tingling in your hands or feet, or anything like that, tell your doctor right away. I had some tingling and it turned out to be nerve damage from the drug. Fortunately, it went away once I stopped taking it, but it was scary at the time.
This drug saved my life. I had a severe Cryptococcus infection and Flucytosine, combined with amphotericin B, cleared it up. Yes, the side effects were nasty, but it was worth it. Just stay in close contact with your doctor and report any issues immediately.

Serious question: does anyone know if alcohol makes the side effects worse? I'd like to have a drink but also don't want to end up in the hospital.
I took Flucytosine for a month and had no issues. I think my case was mild, but it's worth pushing through if you're prescribed it. But talk to your doctor if you have any concerns or if the side effects are too rough.
