I've been diagnosed with both restless legs syndrome (RLS) and postherpetic neuralgia after having shingles. My doctor prescribed Horizant 300mg, which contains gabapentin enacarbil, a special form of gabapentin. This drug isn't for everyone. I tried it for my RLS and had terrible side effects. My doctor switched me to another medication, and I'm doing much better. It's important to talk to your doctor about all your options.
I started taking Horizant for nerve pain after shingles, and it's made a huge difference. The pain was unbearable, but this medication has significantly reduced it. I didn't experience any major side effects, just a bit of drowsiness which is better than the pain.
I was on it for a few weeks and it helped with my restless legs, but I gained a lot of weight. I didn't notice any other side effects, though. Just something to keep in mind.
I've heard of people having trouble with coming off Horizant. Anyone have any experience with that?
