I'm considering getting some Lidocaine 5% Topical Ointment for minor burns and scraps. Has anyone used it before? Does it work well and how is the relief of pain? I'm slightly concerned on the side effects. How is it for insect bites?

I have been using it for years, and have never had any issues

My doctor prescribed it for a minor skin condition. My skin was burning for like 2 hours afterwards, which was freaky. But it works well.

I used it to relieve pain from a bee sting. It was amazing. But I applied it on itch, and that side of the body was numb for like 4 hours. I felt a slight headache and nausea so I guess it was too much for me.

This is my go-to for insect bites. Relief is almost immediate, and it lasts for several hours. I've never had any side effects, but I always apply a thin layer and then wash my hands and face after the procedure.

I've seen it given to dogs for injuries to the feet or paws, wonder if it works the same for animals as it does for us?

I think it depends on your skin. My husband tried to put it on his sunburn and he got a rash and became scratchy everywhere. I applied it on my ankle scrapes and it worked for me really well so I guess it just depends on your skin type and your tolerance to it.

Is this the same as the stuff used by dentists when you get your teeth worked on?

I used it on a bad scrape for a month and it worked well, but I applied it too much and it caused my skin to burn and swell.
