Has anyone tried Vivactil 5mg Tablets (Protriptyline) for depression? Share your experiences and side effects.
I've been recently prescribed Vivactil 5mg Tablets (Protriptyline) for my depression, and I'm a bit nervous about starting a new medication. I've heard it can be more 'activating' than sedating, which is different from other antidepressants I've tried. I'm curious to know if anyone else has taken this medication and what their experiences were like. Were the side effects manageable? Did it help with your symptoms? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I tried Vivactil and it was a no-go for me. I had some really bad constipation and stomach pain. I had to stop taking it after a week. I do not advise it for people who are sensitive to side effects.
I thought Vivactil was going to be a miracle drug, but it didn’t do much for me. I felt maybe a little less sad, but not enough to make a big difference. Eventually, I switched to something else.
I've been on it for a year and it's been great for me. It helped with my depression and didn't make me drowsy like other meds. Just be aware of the side effects and talk to your doctor if anything seems off.
I was on Vivactil for a few months and it did help with my energy levels, but I had some pretty bad dry mouth. Drinking lots of water helped, but it was still annoying. Good luck!
I had some weird dreams on Vivactil. Like, really weird. But overall, it was okay. Just be prepared for that.
I hated Vivactil. It made me feel jittery and anxious, like I had too much caffeine. I switched to something else and it was much better. Might not be for everyone.
I was on it for a while, and it worked fine, but I had to stop because of some weird side effects. Nothing major, just things like lightheadedness and some weird sensations in my fingers and toes.
I had a friend who took Vivactil and had really bad constipation. Just a heads up, make sure you’re eating a lot of fiber and staying hydrated.
