I started using Dhs 0.5% Tar Gel Shampoo 240ml a few weeks ago to help with my psoriasis. The shampoo contains coal tar, which is supposed to slow down the growth of skin cells on your scalp and reduce flaking, scaling, and itching. I've definitely noticed some improvement, but the smell is unbearable. I've been wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there are any tricks to make it more tolerable. I'm also a bit worried about the side effects listed, especially the urgent ones. Has anyone had any serious reactions? I want to make sure I'm using this safely.

I have a similar product that I use, but I’m worried about all the possible side effects. I definitely don't want to deal with hives. Has anyone had to deal with those?

Use a shower cap and deal with it. What’s a few minutes of discomfort for a little relief from psoriasis, right? Years of psoriasis vs. a few minutes. No contest.

I've heard that coal tar can cause some pretty serious side effects. I always make sure to rinse it out thoroughly and avoid getting it in my eyes. I didn't know there was a maximum time limit of 10 minutes, though. That's good to know!

I thought the smell was supposed to be the least of your worries. I’m pretty sure that allergic reaction rash would be worse than the scent. You need to be careful. Psoriasis treatment is not something to mess with.

I’ve been using this shampoo for about a year now, and it’s been a game-changer. I used to have flakes everywhere, and now it’s just a distant memory. Sounds like I need to make sure I'm washing it out properly, too. I may have been taking too much time...

I totally get the smell thing. It's like stepping into an ashtray and then trying to wash it off

I feel your pain on the smell. I started using it with a shower cap on. Just be careful not to leave it on for too long!

I never leave this stuff in for much more than 10 minutes, just like it says on the label. So far, so good. I would ask your doctor about the irritation, though The burning feeling can be awful. They might have a better option.
