I've recently been prescribed Donnatal Mint Elixir for my irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and I am looking for some insights from others who may have used it. I've read about the potential side effects, both urgent and otherwise, and I'm a bit nervous. The mint flavoring helps and I've heard it camouflage the taste, but what about the side effects? Has anyone experienced any serious issues? What about the milder side effects like dizziness or drowsiness? How did you manage them? Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! Let's share and support each other!

I've heard that it can help with muscle spasms and nervousness, but I'm curious to know if anyone has found it particularly effective for those symptoms. Also, I'd like to know if anyone has found any tricks to make taking the liquid medicine easier. I don't mind the mint flavor, but I've heard it can be a bit strong for some people. Thanks in advance for any help!

I tried Donnatal Mint Elixir and had to stop because of severe constipation. It was awful. I had to rush to the ER because of abdominal pain. I ended up getting my doctor to put me on something else and that was the end of it for me.

I'm new to IBS and this is just the latest in a long line of medications I've tried. The side effects sound pretty scary, so I'm hesitant to start. Anyone have any advice on how to navigate the possible side effects?

I’ve been on this for a few weeks and it's helped a ton with my IBS symptoms. The mint flavor is actually nice and it doesn't bother me much. I did experience some dizziness at first, but it went away after a week. I’ve found that taking it with a small snack helps a lot with the dizziness and drowsiness. I think it's worth a try if your doctor recommends it, but be aware of the potential side effects and monitor how your body responds.

I've had some mild side effects like dry mouth and headaches, but nothing too bad. I think it's worth trying if your doctor recommends it. Just be aware of the potential allergic reactions and be ready to seek help if needed.

I’ve used Donnatal before and it did help with my muscle spasms and nervousness. Some of the side effects can be annoying, but I think the benefits outweighed them for me. It’s worth talking to your doctor to see if it’s the right choice for you.

I had no idea this stuff was still around! My grandma used to take this for her digestive issues. She loved the mint flavor, but I remember her complaining about feeling sleepy all the time. I'm not sure if it's worth the risk of side effects, but I guess it depends on how bad your symptoms are.

I've been taking Donnatal for a few months now and it's been a lifesaver for my IBS. The mint flavor is actually quite pleasant, and it doesn't bother me much. However, I’ve definitely experienced some dizziness and drowsiness, especially when I first started taking it. I found that taking it before bed helped a lot with the drowsiness, but it’s important to be careful with activities that require alertness during the day. If you take the liquid medicine and the taste is too strong, you can try mixing it with a small amount of juice or water to dilute it.

Be careful with the sedative effects. I work in a job where I can't afford to be drowsy at all, so I had to stop taking it. I ended up switching to something else that didn't have such a strong sedative effect.

I've been taking it for a couple of weeks and so far, so good! No major side effects. I did notice some dizziness, but it went away after a few days. My cramps are much better, so I'm happy with the results.

Oh no, this thread sounds like my worst nightmare. I have a FOMO because of my friend taking it and swears by the results, but the side effects sound terrifying. I am waiting to hear more from my doctor before taking the plunge.
