I'm dealing with a CMV infection and my doctor prescribed Ganciclovir 500mg Inj, which needs to be given through an IV. I've heard some concerning things about the side effects, including potential kidney issues and even seizures. Has anyone else had experience with this treatment? I'm particularly worried about the long-term effects and would love to know if anyone has had success with other treatments or alternative therapies. How does it affect day-to-day life? Any tips on managing the side effects would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely talk to your doctor about monitoring your kidney function. Mine was already compromised, and it was a close call. I had to do a lot of monitoring at home, and it was a lot of work.

Those are some serious side effects. I had a friend who ended up in the ER with severe abdominal pain. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Please be careful and monitor closely.

I was only on Ganciclovir for a short period, and it was fine for me.

I got some relief with anti-nausea meds, but it wasn't enough. I ended up switching to Valcyte, which is the oral version of Ganciclovir, and it was much easier to handle.
