I've been prescribed Lidocaine 5% Top/oral Oint for some oral pain and I'm a bit nervous about the possible side effects. I've heard that it can be really effective, but I'm worried about some of the more serious side effects like methemoglobinemia and acidosis. Has anyone else used this? What was your experience like? Did you have any side effects? How did you manage them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had a dentist give me this stuff for a nasty canker sore and it was a lifesaver. No side effects, but I only used it for a couple of days. I would suggest using it sparingly and only as directed.

I've had severe allergic reactions to Lidocaine in the past, so I avoid it completely. If you know you're allergic, steer clear for sure. Also, make sure you're not applying it to broken skin, as it can be absorbed into the bloodstream more easily and cause more serious side effects.

Just make sure to not use too much! Applying too much can lead to toxicity. I've had patients who used way too much and ended up with some serious side effects. Stick to the prescribed amount and you should be fine.

I had this prescribed for oral pain, and it was a lifesaver. Just make sure you're using it as directed and keeping an eye out for any weird side effects. I didn't have any, but I'm glad I knew what to look out for.

Don't forget to report any side effects to the FDA. It's important for them to track these things. I had some issues with a different medication and reporting it helped me feel like I was doing something proactive about my concerns.

I've used Lidocaine 5% for a mouth wound a few years ago. It worked great for the pain, but I did experience some mild irritation. The unusual side effects luckily never happened. Just make sure to follow the instructions carefully and talk to your doctor if you notice anything weird.

Why do they make it sound like this stuff can kill you?
