I'm scheduled for surgery soon and the anesthesiologist mentioned they may use Ultiva (Remifentanil) for pain management. I've read about the potential side effects, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has firsthand experience with this medication. How quickly did it wear off? Did you experience any of the more serious side effects? Or did you have a relatively smooth recovery? Any insights would be really helpful! Thanks in advance.

I had Ultiva during my surgery last year. It worked really well for pain management, and I didn't experience any major side effects. The recovery was smooth, and I was back on my feet pretty quickly.

Remifentanil is super potent, but it wears off super quick. I got some muscle stiffness and a headache, but nothing major. Just be prepared for the after effects.

I was a bit nervous about the potential side effects, but my doctor assured me that the benefits outweighed the risks. I did experience some dizziness and nausea, but it was manageable. Definitely talk to your doctor about any concerns you have.

I had a rough time with the breathing difficulties. Had to use a CPAP machine for a month after my surgery. But the pain management was on point, so I guess it's a trade-off?

I got a belly ache and thought it was the medication. Turns out it was just gas—who knew it could be so intense? Don't laugh too much right after taking it.

I have a friend who had a bad reaction to it. She had muscle twitches and a weird fever. Definitely be prepared for the possibility of a rare side effects reaction.

I had a funny thing happen to me. I had to deal with nausea and a headache, but it only lasted a few hours. The doctors were great and kept an eye on me. No big deal.

I'm not a fan of opioids in general, but Ultiva seemed to be the best option for my procedure. Definitely discuss all the alternatives with your doctor.
