I recently started using Vosol HC Otic Solution for an outer ear infection (swimmer's ear) and I'm curious to know if anyone else has used this medication. The active ingredients, acetic acid and hydrocortisone, are supposed to kill bacteria and fungi, as well as reduce inflammation. However, I'm experiencing some burning and stinging. I'm wondering how common this is and if it will go away. Has anyone had a similar experience or any tips on how to make the application less painful? Also, I'm a bit worried about the potential side effects, especially the allergic reactions. Has anyone had any severe reactions? I want to be prepared and know what to look out for. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I was a lifeguard for years and used Vosol HC Otic more times than I can count. It’s a lifesaver. Just make sure to lie down and keep your head tilted for at least a couple of minutes to let the drops work their magic.

I never had any problems with Vosol HC Otic Solution. The burning and stinging are normal, just like when you first start using a new skincare product. That should subside after a couple of days.

I used Vosol HC Otic Solution last summer when I got swimmer's ear. It was a bit uncomfortable at first, but it worked really well for me. Just stick with it and it should clear up quickly. Definitely don't ignore any severe allergic reactions though.

I had a friend who had a severe reaction to this stuff. He broke out in hives all over his face and neck after using it for the first time. It was scary and he had to go to the ER and get a shot of something to make the hives go away. He's fine now, but it was a rough few days.

I’m curious if it’s okay to use this if you have a hole in your eardrum. I have one so I don't want to make it worse.

I have a question something about the drug: What if I feel like my ear is getting worse? Do I stop using this and go see a doctor, or just keep using it until the bottle is empty? I just don't want to waste it if it’s supposed to work.

I read somewhere that you shouldn't use it if you have a ruptured eardrum, but it's always best to ask a doctor. Also, I would definitely call my doctor if you are getting hives or any kind of allergic reaction. That could be really bad.

Why complain about a little burning. I'd rather deal with that than an infected ear. Just keep applying as directed and you should be fine.

I had a similar experience. I felt the burning and stinging at the beginning but it helped reduce the swelling and redness. Just be careful not to get it in your inner ear, that would be a nightmare.

I get it—using ear drops is always a nuisance. But this stuff works. I just tried to make sure I was applying it right––you have to really pull your outer ear up and back to get it in the right spot.
