I've been prescribed Zonalon 5% Cream for my eczema, and I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects, especially the urgent ones. I've read about the possibility of severe skin irritation and allergic reactions. Has anyone else had experience with this cream? Were the side effects manageable, or did you have to stop using it? I'm particularly concerned about the drowsiness side effect, as I need to stay alert for work. Any insights or tips on how to mitigate these side effects would be greatly appreciated! Also, how effective was it in relieving your itching? I've tried other creams in the past without much success, so I'm hoping this one will be different.

I used Zonalon for a few weeks and it was a lifesaver for my eczema. I had some drowsiness initially, but it went away after a while. I just applied the cream before bed and it never affected my work. Just be careful not to get it on your eyes or mouth like the instructions say. Some side effects can be managed by taking a break from it, and with a little patience it shaved a week off my recovery.

I think doctors should let people know that they might be trying something that could be very dangerous, for example that they could get burned or have a bad allergic reaction. I never heard anything about this when I was given this prescription.

If you're experiencing side effects that are serious or unusual, definitely stop using it and call your doctor. I'm pretty sure the anti-itching benefits don't outweigh the risk of something life-threatening. Weigh the risks and benefits with your doctor, obviously. Don't diagnose yourself by taking ideas from strangers online.

I didn't know this stuff could make your skin feel on fire! It's not supposed to hurt, right? I used it for a few weeks and it just made me feel worse. I'm back to my regular cream now and I'm glad to be doing better.

Yeah, the burning sensation was rough, but it only lasted a few minutes each time. I found that applying a thin layer helped a lot. The drowsiness wasn't too bad either, but I did feel a bit groggy in the mornings. And don't forget to keep the cream in the fridge. It feels so cooling when you apply it, but I'm glad I ended up taking short breaks from it after a while.

Be careful with this stuff. It can burn your skin. I applied a small amount on a patch of skin and waited a day to see how it reacted, which was a good idea. I'll never forget waking up and feeling like my skin had been set on fire. My skin was so irritated, it felt like I'd been sunburned. My eczema was so bad that I had to do something, but I had to stop using it after a couple of weeks. I found that a combination of other creams and a change in diet seemed to help more. I would have done anything to stop the itching, but I'm just not sure if it was worth the risk.

I had a really bad reaction to Zonalon. I broke out in hives and itched all over. I called my doctor right away and he had me stop using it immediately. I think I might have been allergic to the doxepin. It was scary, and I'm glad I didn't wait to seek help. I found out later that I'm allergic to some other similar antihistamines as well. I'm glad they caught it early when I did.

I didn't have any side effects at all! Zonalon worked wonders for my eczema. I guess everyone is different, but it was totally worth it for me. Just keep an eye out for any unusual symptoms and you should be fine. I never did have any burning or stinging sensations. I guess I was lucky! My eczema was so awful that I could hardly sleep at night. I was desperate for something to help.

This thread is spooky. I just picked this up today. I was hoping it would work because my eczema is out of control. I didn't know it could be dangerous, though. Do you think I should use it even though I have some side effects?

Did you try taking an antihistamine before applying it? I found that if I took an antihistamine before I applied my cream, I didn't have any side effects. You do have to wait 30-60 minutes to shower after applying it, though, so plan accordingly.
