I've been prescribed Heparin Sod 1000u/ml Inj, 30ml to prevent blood clots post-surgery. I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects, especially the serious ones like allergic reactions and bleeding. Has anyone else had experience with this? How did you manage the side effects? I'm particularly concerned about the neurological symptoms. How common are these and what should I do if I notice any? Any tips on administering the injection would be helpful as well. I've heard it can be given into a vein or under the skin. Which method is better and why? I want to be as informed as possible.

My experience with Heparin was pretty smooth. I only had some minor bruising, but nothing that caused any real concern. Just make sure to monitor your vitals closely if you're taking this. It's not a fun drug, but it works if you need to prevent clots.

I've had to administer Heparin injections to my elderly mother. The best advice I can give is to rotate the injection sites to prevent skin breakdown and swelling. Also, always ensure the area is clean before injecting. It's crucial to follow the prescribed dosage strictly to avoid complications.

The neurological symptoms are what worry me the most. I've heard they can be life-threatening. Is that true, and what can be done to prevent them?

I've been on Heparin for a few months and the side effects can be a bit scary at first, but my doctor assured me that they are rare. The key is to stay in touch with your healthcare provider and report any unusual symptoms immediately. I had some minor bruising and bleeding, but nothing too serious. Just make sure to follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Truly fascinating how something so dangerous can be so useful, too. Just have them give it in the vein in the hospital if you can, they are trained to deal with the problems.

I know a few people who have had to take Heparin. Everyone's experience is different, but the key is diligent monitoring and communication with your doctor. Don't hesitate to call if something feels off.

A friend of mine had a terrible experience with Heparin. She started feeling confused and had a severe headache. Turns out she was having an allergic reaction. It was scary, but she recovered after stopping the medication and seeking immediate medical attention.

This seems scary. How does the nurse decide whether to give it under the skin or in the vein? Which method is better? Also, I've heard stories about Heparin being contaminated and people getting sick. Is this a big risk?

Has anyone had issues with skin breakdown at the injection site? I've heard that can be pretty nasty. Also, what's the deal with the burning sensations on the soles of the feet? Sounds horrendous.

If you start feeling like your leg is on fire, don't mess around. Go to the hospital, I'm serious. It could be a blood clot. When I was on it, I had a friend literally go to the ER just to be sure and they managed to treat it before it escalated.
