Heparin 100u/ml for IV 250ml is often used for preventing blood clots when you have deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) or undergoing major surgery, but how does it compare to the newer blood thinners like Eliquis or Xarelto? What side effects should we be particularly concerned about, and how does the 100u/ml dosage compare to other concentrations? Has anyone had experience with this specific formulation and dosage for DVT specifically? Also, how do side effects like bruising and pain at the injection site compare to those of oral blood thinners?

I had to use Heparin for a blood clot issue during pregnancy. I didn't experience any serious side effects, but the constant monitoring was stressful. The IV route can be a bit of a hassle, but it's worth it if you need that immediate effect.

I had to use Heparin Sod/d5w 100u/ml Inj, 250ml for a pulmonary embolism. My doctor monitored me closely for bleeding complications. With my experience, I would say the side effects were manageable, but the injection sites did get a bit sore, and I had to be careful with bruising. The IV route is convenient if you need rapid action, but the monitoring is intense.

Both have their pros and cons. My doctor said that the new blood thinners are easier for long-term use, but Heparin is still the go-to for acute situations. It's all about what your doctor recommends based on your specific condition.

The dosing of Heparin can be tricky. I remember my nurse had to adjust it frequently based on my blood tests. It's not as straightforward as a fixed dose like the oral meds.

I've heard that newer blood thinners have fewer side effects and are easier to manage. Any thoughts on switching to something like Apixaban?

I had a bad reaction to Heparin Sod/d5w, but it was years ago. I'm curious to know if the newer formulations are any better.

I was on Heparin for a while after surgery, and the bruising was intense. I switched to Xarelto and the difference was night and day.

Heparin can be a lifesaver in acute situations, but the side effects can be scary. Always keep an eye out for any signs of allergic reactions or severe bleeding. It's serious stuff!
