I've been dealing with high cholesterol for a while and my doctor prescribed me Niacor 500mg tablets. Niacin (nicotinic acid) is a vitamin that, at higher doses like in Niacor, is supposed to help reduce 'bad' cholesterol (LDL and triglycerides) and increase 'good' cholesterol (HDL) by reducing the amount of fat produced by your liver. I've read that taking aspirin 30 minutes before taking Niacor can help with flushing, but I'm curious to hear from others who have tried this. Also, I'm a bit concerned about the potential side effects, particularly the serious ones. Has anyone else experienced any severe issues, or are the side effects mostly manageable? I want to make sure I'm taking this medication safely and effectively. If you've had experience with this drug or any other cholesterol medications, I'd love to hear your thoughts and advice. Thanks in advance for sharing your insights!

Does anyone know if Niacor interacts with other medications? I'm on a few drugs for other conditions and want to make sure it's safe to add this one.

I'm glad I found this thread. My doctor mentioned Niacor but I was hesitant due to the side effects. Thanks for sharing your experiences! Remember to drink tons of water if you experience flushing, it can help sooth your body.

Niacor was a game-changer for me. I’ve seen a significant decrease in my LDL and an increase in my HDL. Flushing was tough at first but manageable. Just be cautious and watch for more serious side effects like liver problems; regular check-ups are crucial!

Be very careful with Niacor, a close friend of mine experienced some pretty severe muscle pain and weakness; that's a clear sign of rhabdomyolysis, and it's scary. Make sure you monitor for those symptoms and talk to your doctor regularly.

I've been on Niacor for about six months now, and while it has helped lower my cholesterol, the flushing side effect is brutal. The aspirin trick works sometimes, but I've also started taking it in the evening to minimize the discomfort. Just be aware that it might be a bit of a trade-off. 100% read the warnings though.
