I've been prescribed Hydrocodone/ibuprofen 5-200mg tablets for severe back pain, but I'm nervous about the side effects. The combination of hydrocodone and ibuprofen sounds effective, but I worry about the possibility of serious side effects like breathing difficulties or allergic reactions. I've heard that opioids can be addictive, so I'm also concerned about dependency. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? How did you manage the side effects and what precautions did you take? I'm looking for some practical advice and reassurance from others who have used this pain reliever.

What are the alternatives to this medication? Sometimes I feel they give these out like candy.

I’ve seen people have bad reactions to opioids, even to the extent that they had to go to hospital. Definitely trust your instincts and contact your doctor or an emergency room if you experience any of the serious side effects listed. And don't worry, I think you will be fine. Just make sure to follow the directions and stay in touch with your doctor. Painkillers are there for a reason and help so many people live a better life.

So how long were you prescribed this medication for?

I had a bad experience with this combo. I ended up in the ER because of severe dizziness and shortness of breath. If you have any respiratory issues, be extra careful. Be sure to tell your doctor about any other meds you're on, especially if you take anything that could interact with opioids. Always keep the medication in a secure place, and dispose of any leftover pills properly if you stop taking it.

I had a friend who got dependent on this medication, I would just be very careful. Best of luck.

I used this medication after a surgery and it helped a lot with the pain. However, I experienced some dizziness and constipation. Make sure to stay hydrated and talk to your doctor about stool softeners if needed, when taking these pills. Be very careful if you drive or operate heavy machinery while on this medication. If you do get addicted to opiates, get help immediately as there is treatment available. I recommend it for short-term use, or when you're in a lot of serious pain, but I would not take it for extended periods.

I feel like opioids are overprescribed. There are so many non-opioid pain management options out there. But if you do end up taking this, make sure to use it responsibly. Do not share or sell any leftover pills, and always store them securely. I dont want to frighten you but watch out for the signs of addiction. There can be serious consequences if you mess around with these pills.

Don't worry, it's not as bad as it sounds. Just make sure to follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. I've taken them a few times and they work well for short-term pain relief. The key is to not take more than you need. You can always ask for a lower dose or for a different combo if you're worried.
