I didn't have any bad side effects, but I did feel really drowsy. I had to avoid driving and operating heavy machinery. It was inconvenient, but it was worth it for the pain relief. Even my doctor told me not to drive while on this medication.
I've been on Hydromorphone for a while, and the thing that helped me the most was staying hydrated and eating fiber-rich foods to combat constipation. Also, communicating openly with my doctor about any side effects helped adjust the dosage or add additional meds to manage symptoms.
This stuff is no joke. I had a severe allergic reaction the first time I was given it. My throat swelled up, and I couldn't breathe. Went to the ER and ended up having to take a different painkiller instead. Scary stuff.
