I just had a Marcaine/Epinephrine 0.5% Inj injection for surgery. What should I expect?
I'm a bit nervous about the side effects. I know it's a combination of bupivacaine and epinephrine, but I'm worried about the rare but serious side effects mentioned in the patient leaflet. Has anyone had a similar experience? What did you experience after the injection? Did you have any of the side effects? How did you manage them? How long did the numbing effect last? Any tips for a smooth recovery?

I'm currently dealing with some urinary retention after having the injection a few days ago. Just be aware. I’m not sure if it’s a side effect but I had one of the injections and now I cant pee.
I had this injection for a spinal procedure and felt numb in my legs. The doctor said it was normal. The worst part was the full body shakes after the procedure. It only happened once, but it was really uncomfortable.
I had this for a knee surgery and the area stayed numb for a while. I had some lightheadedness but it wasn't too bad. Make sure to take it easy and don't try to do too much too soon.
Be careful and monitor for any signs of an allergic reaction. I had a friend who had a bad reaction to a similar anesthetic. It's better to be safe.
The sensation of my arm going numb during the ultrasound was really odd, but it was nothing compared to the list of side effects I'd been reading about. But hey, here I am with all my limbs and fingers intact. I cook for a living and I was worried about dropping something sharp. No problem at all. On the plus side, the numbing effect did linger for 7 hours, so that was nice.
I've had this injection before for a dental procedure. The numbing effects lasted for a few hours, and I didn't experience any serious side effects. Just a bit of dizziness, but it went away quickly.
I had this for a minor surgery and felt like I was floating for a bit. I also got really sweaty. It was pretty weird, but it only lasted a few hours and I was fine after. If you feel anything extremely uncomfortable, call your doctor though. No joke.
I'm an ER nurse and have seen patients with methemoglobinemia from similar anesthetics. It's rare, but it happens. If you notice any blue or gray discoloration, seek help immediately.
I was scared of the side effects too, but everything went smoothly. Just make sure to keep hydrated and avoid heavy lifting for a few days. I felt like I was walking on cotton balls but that’s normal. The numbing effect lasted for a few hours and I was back to normal. If you're going to have this injection, make sure to do it well before bedtime or something.
